What is now known as Snyder’s Livestock Company in Yerington, Nevada began with Charlie Snyder’s dream of homesteading in the Mason Valley in 1892.
Over the next 130 years, five generations of Snyders built on his vision, expanding beyond the original cattle ranch into commercial crop farming and establishing a state-of-the-art feed lot operation. Today, the Snyder family remains committed to preserving the agricultural heritage of Nevada while adopting progressive ranching and farming practices that allow their businesses to continue thriving in the 21st century.
1982. Pinenut Livestock Supply Opens
In 1982, veterinarian Randall P. Walstrum, DVM, needed a local resource for vaccine and other livestock pharmaceutical products, so he and his good friend Bill Paullo decided to open their own livestock supply business in Bill’s garage in Gardnerville, NV.
Built on the concept of ‘neighbors helping neighbors,’ Pinenut Livestock Supply quickly outgrew the garage and when Bill retired in 1994, John and Renee Keithly joined Pinenut as Randy’s partners, opening commercial stores in Gardnerville and Fallon.
Over the course of four decades, Pinenut’s customer base expanded into California and the western United States. They built a strong reputation for providing “Ol’ Fashioned Service in a True Western Spirit,” by delivering directly to producers in remote areas and serving as a trusted source of current practices and protocols for combatting animal diseases and medical conditions.
2018. Snyder Family Takes the Reins
After 25 years, John and Renee Keithly retired in December, 2018, turning over the business to the Snyder Family, one of Pinenut’s first customers. The long-standing professional relationship between the Keithly’s, Dr. Walstrum and the Snyder family, combined with their shared values, made for a seamless transition to “Snyders’ Pinenut Livestock Supply.” The business operates under the leadership of Patrick Snyder, one of the fifth generation of Snyders active in Nevada agriculture throughout the state. A native of Yerington, Patrick received his B.A. in Agricultural Business from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and his MBA from Santa Clara University. After spending over 20 years working for Fortune 100 companies, Patrick realized his lifelong dream of returning to his roots as an owner and the business’s managing partner. Customers of Snyders’ Pinenut Livestock Supply continue to enjoy “Ol’ Fashioned Service in a True Western Spirit,” now backed up by five generations of Nevada ranching heritage and a commitment progressive farming and ranching practices. And of course, Dr. Walstrum is still on hand to provide medical expertise and information on current products and practices in the livestock, dairy and equine world- along with his signature quick wit and good-natured sense of humor.
